It surprises me every winter how the public reacts to the first snowfall. It’s almost like we have no idea how to drive on winter roads, we’re totally unprepared for the cold and have no idea where we put the toques, gloves and scarves.
I don’t mind the winter, but I don’t like how the temperature plummeted over just a few days... almost feels like being pushed off the dock into a glacier fed lake. It’s a great shock to the body, but after a while -25 is going to feel exhilarating!
Yea, right.
Speaking of change... the folks at the Camrose Regional Exhibition certainly are good at their job. Take last weekend for example - following the Festival of Trees everything was torn down, moved around and in a matter of a few days the main hall was transformed into the showroom for Lamb Ford’s annual indoor sale. Considering they’ll move the vehicles out in a few weeks to allow the “running of the bulls” for the annual Bull Congress, the CRE is the ultimate quick change artist.
I had a chance to meet and welcome physician Dr. Itua Iriogbe who now calls Camrose home. Dr. Iriogbe worked in Provost for two weeks before he came to Camrose, and is now practicing at the Smith Clinic. Welcome to Camrose, Doc! Considering I haven’t had a family doctor since coming to Camrose over two years ago, “Tag - you’re it!”
Get ready to see a popular thespian on a TV screen near you. Ken and Marnie Robert’s son Rick takes on the role of Dr. John Rae in the film “Passage” on the History Channel on December 18 at 8 p.m. The film, which was released on DVD this summer, recounts the quest for the Northwest Passage by Hudson’s Bay Company explorer Dr. John Rae and British Royal Navy Officer Sir John Franklin. If you’re a history buff (but even if you’re not) be sure to tune in!
Congratulations to Shirley Rostad and Doug Tien who celebrated the 30th anniversary of their accounting partnership, Tien Rostad LLP, last week.
The Camrose Kodiaks have some new faces as Cole Penner had his junior ‘A’ rights traded by the Meritt Centenials for future considerations. Also new to the Kodiaks is Swift Current Broncos 18 year old netminder Alexandre Sirard. Sirard saw action in eight games with the Broncos this season going 2-4 with a 3.31 goals against average. Kodiak Dylan Olsen will be one of 12 defencemen vying for seven jobs on the Canadian National Junior team blueline at the national junior selection camp in Regina this weekend. Good luck, Dylan.
Speaking of Kodiaks, don’t forget that this weekend is the annual Teddy Beear Toss on Dec. 13. during their southern rival Brooks Bandits. Be in attendance with your new, unwrapped toy and when the Kodiaks score their first goal toss your bear onto the ice!
