Kodiaks add to scouting staff
The Camrose Kodiaks recently announced the addition of two new scouts to their staff.
Jean Durocher has rejoined the club as Western Canadian scout. He previously was their director of scouting from 2002-10 has coached bantam and midget AAA hockey for 12 years and is a Camrose and District Athletic Club director. They have also brought on board Eric Kroetch has been involved in Camrose hockey for 10 years and has been a part of the International Scouting Services since 2014. He is also a CDAC board member.
"We've made ourselves better, we've made ourselves more competitive in recruiting," said Kodiaks head coach and general manager Boris Rybalka. "Getting those two people is huge for us."
Rybalka said it is getting more and more competitive in the search for players to fill out their roster as the Kodiaks now compete with teams from outside of Alberta for players. He said the day of kids staying in province or going somewhere just because a team is hosting a major tournament are over.
"You've got to do your homework … to go out and find those players," said Rybalka. "Getting guys like Jean and Erik aboard, we can make sure during the year we can get to those kids early and get the jump on all these different teams."
The Kodiaks are back on ice for their spring camp from June 22-23 at Encana Arena which will be capped on June 24 with their annual golf tournament.
