Finally, spring and warm weather have arrived!

It is time to plan a road trip where the journey is an authentic destination and experience. Highway 13 offers just such an experience where you can stop in and visit quaint villages, towns and hamlets. Whether you have lived in the region for several years or you are simply from outside the area, there are many unique places to visit and explore in each community. This road trip can be done in two and a half hours or can be extended to fill the entire day or even a weekend.

For the second year communities along Highway 13 will be working together to create fun road trip experiences. The Communities involved are Wetaskiwin, Camrose, Bawlf, Daysland, Strome, Killam, Flagstaff County, Sedgewick, Lougheed, Hardisty, Amisk and Provost. This collaborative partnership is called the Lucky Highway 13 Tourism Initiative.

Starting May long weekend those looking to take a road trip will be able to participate in a summer long photo scavenger hunt. Each community along Highway 13 will choose two stops which can be found on the website www.luckyhighway13.com. Participants will take a “selfie” in front of each stop and upload their photos to the website. At the end of September, the photo entries will be judged and there will be great prizes to be won. This contest is open to all interested in participating.

To add even more fun, a Poker Rally will also take place on July 21. It will begin in Wetaskiwin with a pancake breakfast and end in Provost with a barbeque. There will be check points in each participating community along the way. The Poker Rally is open to all rubber tire traffic but those who wish to participate must register online by June 30. Registration and rules can be found on www.luckyhighway13.com.

Plan to explore communities along Highway 13 this summer, take part in the photo contest and Poker Rally, you’ll be glad you did!
