If you haven’t stopped in to try out the new coffee shop in town, it’s time to stop in and find out what all the buzz is about.

Similar to the goats in the legend of the origins of coffee her store is named after, Sami Smith’s customers have been buzzing for the coffee, conversation, and warm atmosphere that can only be found at G.O.A.T. (Greatest Of All Time) Coffee Co.

Two weeks ago, this sweet little coffee cottage opened up and already she’s had lineups and has filled her little shop beyond capacity. This destination coffee shop shares a lot and some outdoor design flare with F/T Aggregates where Shane Smith, the proud dad was happy to help his daughter build her dream.

The dream started two years ago when Sami got her certification with the Canadian Barrista Association. She says she “loves the atmosphere of coffee, its where people connect,” so she decided to put her stamp on Camrose and open up a sweet coffee shop where people can enjoy the culture, coffee, and connections.

At G.O.A.T. you can be inside or you can sit in comfy lawn chairs around the firepit that’s always stocked to keep you toasty warm. I personally have never seen a coffee shop with a firepit, but for Smith, it’s exactly what was needed.

“A firepit is a gathering point, it draws random strangers to sit and chat.”

Sami has a bigger purpose than just pouring a good cup of Joe.

There’s even a sand box there for the kids. Mom’s, come sip hot coffee — for once — and the kids can dig. It’s a perfect combination. The sandbox is another joint mission with her neighbour at F/T Aggregates who run a program called “operation sandbox.” This program partners with other local organizations to give free sandboxes to kids under age 12. Talk to Kailey at F/T Aggregates if you’d like to get involved in this project, or if you know a kid or family that could benefit from some sand adventures.

Smith is amazed by the response of the east end businesses who appreciate that she opens at 7 a.m. to serve their coffee on the way to work, and she’s open until 6 p.m. to catch them on their way home. She’s had moms, business people, and local residents all showing up to try her made fresh daily muffins, cookies and sweets, coffee, and cold beverages.

At G.O.A.T. you can choose from soy, coconut, almond milk or 3.25 per cent white milk in your coffee, and a choice of honey, cane sugar, or regular sugar. Try her healthy brownies that are always gluten free, dairy free, refined sugar free and vegan friendly. Check out the menu board for seasonal favourites, but the hot and cold specialties right now are the Got your Goat and Dizzy Billy. There’s even a specialty drink for the kids — a kids’ steamer served luke warm, it is a yummy combo of steamed milk and whipped cream.

Smith has been blown away by the community support with word of mouth referrals and Facebook posts, which have helped her market her new business.

Stop quick for a coffee, she can whip up your favourites in less than a minute. If you’re the generous one buying coffee for colleagues, feel free to call-in or text your orders to have them ready for pick-up. Better yet, drag the entire office to the firepit for coffees at your weekly staff meeting.

G.O.A.T. is open daily from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday — and yes, she’ll be open in winter. They’ll just stoke the fire hotter.

To Camrosians it may have seemed like this little coffee cottage just appeared overnight, but, in reality, it took a team effort to build the coffee cottage with all its custom features. Smith is so grateful to the friends and family who cleared their schedules to come and help assemble the cottage and all the custom details that made it the special location it is today.

This entrepreneur with the help of her supportive family has thought of every detail. Even the cups are stamped with happiness, which makes the coffee in it taste all that extra warm. Smith’s best friend came all the way from B.C. to help launch this little business and as a team they’ve enjoyed serving Camrosians the some of the best coffee in town.

Unwind on your coffee break, charge your phone, and enjoy free wifi. If you’d rather visit, pull up a lawn chair and enjoy the coffee shop culture of chatting it up with the locals. At G.O.A.T., they serve a high-quality specialty artisan coffee with an added benefit of kindness, generosity, and community spirit. This friendly team is young, energetic, and ready to serve.

Come enjoy hot coffee, warm atmosphere, and a cozy fire at G.O.A.T. coffee company. and please “like” Marilous pampered chef on facebook.
