It was a big upset when you look at the regular season standings.
But, with the way the Olds Broncos ran through the competition to make it to the 2013 ACAC women’s basketball final March 2, the wildcard entrant knocking off the top seed may not have been as much of an upset as first thought.
The Olds Broncos led by former NCAA ball player Jylissa Williams downed the host Augustana Vikings 83-65, securing the gold medal and forcing the top seed Vikings to settle for silver.
The championship game was fast-paced from opening tip off, and remained a tight game until the final half of the fourth quarter, as the Broncos began to pull away and was able to protect the lead.
Meanwhile, the NAIT Ooks won the bronze medal with a 55-53 win over the MacEwan Griffins the bronze medal game.
