Collision claims life
An early morning accident on May 3 claimed the life of one Camrose man.
At approximately 1 a.m., the Camrose Police Service responded to a 911 call of a single vehicle accident near 58 St. and 51 Ave. Greg Michael Shute, 31, a passenger in the vehicle that was located in a marshy area west of the intersection died at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt.
Shute was a foreman at the Evraz Camrose Works steel mill. The driver of the vehicle was Darren Kent Brooks, 41, of Camrose, who received minor injuries that didn't require hospitalization. Police believe speed and alcohol were factors in the accident. Brooks is a local dentist.
The police charged him with Impaired Driving Causing Death, Driving over .08 Causing Death and Dangerous Driving Causing Death. He was released by a Justice of the Peace and ordered to appear in Camrose Provincial Court on May 20 at 9:30 a.m.
